He who hesitates is lost

This story is about two weeks old now. But I was cleaning near our fireplace and there was a plastic bag and I looked inside to see if there was anything or if I could just throw away the bag. Inside the bag I saw a large centipede (or a millipede). Fear rose up inside of me and I recoiled, stepped away from the bag, and grabbed a shoe of mine. But in that time, it was only three or four seconds, the centipede woke from its slumber and crawled out of the bag. I walked over to it with the shoe but it must has sense the change in light or something and scurried into the safety of the fireplace and was hidden forever.
It only took a few seconds but since I hesitated I failed to kill the bug. Also I know in my heart that my dad’s dad would have killed it immediately. He was pretty tough and there was a story where he was using a chainsaw in my dad’s cabin and saw a scorpion crawling on a log nearby. He put down the chainsaw and smashed the scorpion with his gloved hand. What a boss.
If nothing I have learned to be quicker when killing bugs, perhaps with my bare hands if necessary. Better to have some gross bug juice on my hands than a centipede in the fireplace.
Also we will see if Sneha reads this, I haven’t told her this story and I dont think she will be happy about it.
